Mutton Fat White Porcelain Gaiwan
Mutton fat white porcelain represents the pinnacle of premium white porcelain craftsmanship. Despite its name, it is not made from jade. It takes inspiration from the core qualities of top-tier mutton fat jade, crafted from high-purity, fine-grained porcelain clay and fired at high temperatures exceeding 1300°C (2372°F). Its dense body resists flavor absorption, while its glossy, smooth glaze does not trap tea stains, making it the premier material for crafting gongfu tea ware.
The high-temperature firing process fully vitrifies the mutton fat porcelain, resulting in an ultra-dense body with near-zero porosity. This means it will never absorb tea aromas, trap lingering tea stains, or cause flavor cross-contamination between different tea types. A gaiwan made from this material preserves 100% of the tea’s natural aroma layers, liquor color, and authentic flavor profile. It does not distort or overpower the tea’s inherent character, making it suitable for brewing every type of tea.
Mutton fat porcelain has a far higher degree of vitrification than standard white porcelain. Its hard, dense body is scratch and impact resistant, so it will not easily scratch, chip, or break with regular use. Even with long-term use, the glaze will not yellow or lose its luster.
